| Subject: | Hooters Music Appreciation Day |
| In the near future, I will be offering a resolution designating April 30, 2013 as "Hooters Music Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania. This resolution celebrates the Hooters' contribution to musical and popular culture. As a local band, originating and residing in and around Philadelphia, the Hooters have become internationally successful, famous and iconic. They are one of the most successful musical groups ever to originate in Pennsylvania. The Hooters released their first album in 1983 and released a number of albums subsequently. Among the hits those albums contained were "And we Danced", "Day by Day", "Where do the Children Go", "All you Zombies", "Fightin' on the Same Side", "Satellite", and "500 Miles". The Hooters also served as songwriters and back-up musicians for artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne and Ricky Martin. Among the songs the Hooters wrote for other artists are huge international hits "Time After Time" by Lauper and "What if God was one of us" by Osborn. The Hooters are also known for their live performances. They were the opening act of Live Aid, joined Pink Floyd's Roger Waters for his performances of "The Wall" and played the famed Amnesty International Concerts. The band still lives and records in the Philadelphia area. On the day this resolution will commemorate as "Hooters Music Appreciation Day", the Hooters themselves will perform a live, free concert in the East Wing Rotunda of the State Capitol at noon. Everybody is invited. |
