MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 15, 2013 11:06 AM
From: Senator Robert M. Tomlinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: amendments to the real estate licensing law

Please join me in cosponsoring legislation which would amend the state Real Estate Licensing and Registration Act.

The bill would:
Require an additional 30 hours for a salesperson pre-licensure education, allowing for a grandfathering process for those already enrolled in classes.
Require 95% attendance at pre-licensure and continuing education courses.
Increases continuing education credits for all real estate licensees from 14 hours to 18 hours every two years. Six hours must be in a specific topic area, depending on type of real estate the licensee practices.
Requires that an individual must complete all courses for a broker license within five years prior to taking and passing the exam. The bill would allow for a grandfathering for those already enrolled in those classes.
Requires that all courses for salesperson licenses be completed three years prior to the taking and passing of the exam. The bill would allow for grandfathering for those already enrolled in those classes.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent for licensure as a real estate salesperson.
Permits licensees to conduct broker price opinions under certain criteria.

Introduced as SB869
