Subject: | Co Sponsorship: Voter ID Neighborhood Centers |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would amend the Pennsylvania Election Code to require that the Department of State designate district offices of members of the General Assembly, municipal offices or other facilities as places where voters can obtain a voter identification card. Voter ID neighborhood centers would expand and speed up the process for individuals seeking to obtain an identification card for voting purposes. Many of these offices have hours that would make it more convenient for individuals who have hectic schedules or nontraditional work hours. In August 2012, I wrote the Administration asking them to grant some state offices the authority to be designated as locations for people wanting a voter identification card. However, because of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling, voter IDs were not required for the General Election that took place in November. |
