Subject: Resolution Designating March as American Red Cross Month
 

Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating March 2013 as “American Red Cross Month” in Pennsylvania.

Today’s Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The Red Cross demonstrated its vital role in emergency response as recently as this past October, when the high winds and torrential rains of Superstorm Sandy claimed 10 lives in the Commonwealth alone and displaced more than 3,000 residents.

The Red Cross also trains people in CPR, AEDs, first aid, and water safety, and provides hundreds of thousands of units of blood each year to victims in need.

Please join me in saluting the 132-year-long history and exemplary service of the American Red Cross and its 44 Pennsylvania chapters.
