Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 28, 2013 11:51 AM
From: Senator LeAnna M. Washington
To: All Senate members
Subject: Children's products - BPA free

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would prohibit the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in all products used by children under the age of four.

BPA is an estrogen-like chemical believed to disrupt human growth. This chemical is especially dangerous for infants and toddlers, and is often found in plastic items, such as infant bottles and toys.

The Federal Drug Administration has recently banned use of BPA in baby bottles and drinking cups used by infants and toddlers. However, additional steps must be taken to remove it from all baby products.

This is a companion bill to Rep. McCarter’s HB377 and it would ban the use of BPA in any product whose primary use is intended for children under the age of 4.

If you have any questions, please contact my office at 717-787-1427.

Introduced as SB490
