Subject: Baker/Legislative COLA Refusal Mechanism
 

I plan to re-introduce Senate Bill 604 from last session to amend the Public Official Compensation law so that a member of the General Assembly could elect to reject receipt of the annual cost-of-living adjustment by notifying the Chief Clerk in either chamber in writing no later than ten days prior to the annual effective date of the adjustment. The election to reject the adjustment would be irrevocable during the member’s term of office.

This change would eliminate the need to return the increase each month to Treasury or to donate the increase to charity.

Previous co-sponsors were Senators Alloway, Brewster, Brubaker, Erickson, Farnese, Folmer, Fontana, Rafferty, Vogel, White and Yudichak.
