Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 10, 2023 12:34 PM
From: Representative Jessica Benham and Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing June 2023 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month

June is recognized worldwide as “LGBTQ+ Pride Month” to commemorate the Stonewall riots in New York City, considered to be a turning point in the fight for global LGBTQ+ equality. However, the fight is far from over. With increasing anti-LGBTQ+ hate, we must show more than ever that we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, letting members of this community know that they deserve to be visible and heard.

That is why we are introducing a resolution recognizing the month of June 2023 as “LGBTQ+ Pride Month” in Pennsylvania. Pride Month is not only an opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to come together and celebrate the progress we have made, it is also a reminder of past hardships and a recognition of the work that still needs to be done to achieve full equality.

As public servants, it is our duty to ensure the equal treatment of all Pennsylvanians. It is unacceptable for anybody to be discriminated against for who they love or who they are. We ask that you co-sponsor this resolution, joining in the fight to promote equality and a culture of anti-discrimination.

Introduced as HR114
