Subject: | Prohibiting Undetectable Firearms (Formerly House Bill 414 of 2021-2022) |
For years there has been intense debate concerning the issue of 3D-printing firearms. These weapons are becoming a serious threat to public safety as well as the safety of law enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth. Without necessary regulations of these firearms, individuals ineligible to possess firearms under state and federal law would easily be able to get their hands on these deadly weapons. Unlike traditional firearms, 3D-printed firearms are completely undetectable by traditional security measures. In addition to being undetectable, they are being printed without serial numbers, making them nearly impossible to trace. To ensure the safety of our friends, families, and neighbors, I will be introducing legislation that will ban the manufacturing, sale, and possession of undetectable firearms, including 3D-printed firearms. While these devices should already be illegal under current federal law, it falls on members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to act and protect Pennsylvanians from the danger these firearms pose to public safety. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation to give our Commonwealth’s law enforcement officials the tools that they need to protect our residents from untraceable and undetectable firearms. |
