Subject: Tax Exemption for Firefighting Equipment

Firefighters provide an essential service in all of our communities. Unfortunately, fire companies are often underfunded, and many rely on the brave and invaluable work of unpaid volunteers who risk their own safety to protect the health and welfare of others.

My legislation would help recognize the irreplaceable service that our firefighters provide. Firefighting equipment can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, and firefighters often pay for this life-saving equipment out of their own pockets. This bill would amend the Tax Reform Code to provide a sales tax exemption to firefighters who are purchasing firefighting equipment with their own money.

It is important for us to provide assistance to our essential first responders in any way we can. I hope you will join me in supporting this legislation to help our firefighters.

Introduced as HB2597
