Subject: | Canvassing of Mail-In and Absentee Ballots Immediately Upon the Close of Polls on Election Day |
Pennsylvanians deserve to know the results of our elections as soon as possible after the close of polls on Election Day. With our status as one of the most important swing states, even national elections can hang in the balance until Pennsylvania has finished its electoral counting. Currently, however, Pennsylvania’s Election Code allows counties to wait until three days after Election Day to even begin counting their mail-in and absentee ballots. This results in an unacceptable delay in knowing the outcomes of our elections. Soon I will be introducing legislation that would require all counties to begin canvassing mail-in and absentee ballots immediately upon the close of polls on Election Day. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Voters deserve to know the results of elections without a delay. |
