MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 4, 2022 01:24 PM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Organ donor designation on voter registration

Each day in the United States, 20 people die waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and every 10 minutes another person is added to the transplant waiting list. There are more than 7,000 people on the organ transplant waitlist in Pennsylvania alone.

Signing up to be an organ donor at a driver’s license center, with your hunting or fishing license, or by visiting donatelife.org saves families the pain of trying to determine a person’s wishes.

The pandemic has had a major impact on designation rates as the vast majority happen in person at Driver’s License Centers. We should give people as many opportunities as possible to register as an organ donor.

My legislation is simple – it will provide a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question to become an organ donor on voter registration forms.

The act of organ donation is one of generosity and compassion. The 115,000 people currently on the donation waitlist depend on this compassion for a second chance at life. Please join me in co-sponsoring this life-saving legislation.
