Subject: | Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Paul Stewart III Bridge Memorial |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation to honor the service and sacrifice of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Paul Stewart III, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. A 2008 graduate of Greater Latrobe Senior High School, Michael earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania before attending the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. After graduating the Academy as a member of class 138, Michael served as a trooper with the Chambersburg and Greensburg barracks. On July 14, 2017, Michael was on patrol when a garbage truck attempted to turn left onto the roadway and collided with his SUV. Tragically, Michael passed away from his injuries at approximately 2:20 a.m. In commemoration of Trooper Stewart’s public service and memory, I will be introducing legislation to designate the bridge carrying Pennsylvania Route 981 over the Loyalhanna Creek in Latrobe, Westmoreland County, as the Trooper Michael Paul Stewart III Memorial Bridge. It is my hope that this commemoration will offer some comfort to his friends, family, and community as they continue to grieve this immeasurable loss. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to honor this extraordinary individual and recognize his public service and sacrifice. |
