Subject: | Greater Transparency for Legislator Expenses |
As legislators, we owe it to the taxpayers we serve to be upfront and honest about the expenses we incur. In addition to funding our salaries, medical benefits, pensions, and per diems, our residents also cover the expenses related to district offices, state-related travel, meals, lodging, and countless other expenses necessary to our role as elected officials. The people deserve full transparency for all legislator expenses. For this reason, I plan to introduce legislation as a companion bill to Senate Bill 838 sponsored by Senator Lindsey Williams. The legislation will require the Offices of the Chief Clerk for both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Senate to publish the expenses of all legislators on a publicly accessible Internet website in a searchable format. This is a vital step towards increased transparency for the residents footing the bill for our expenses. Pennsylvanians need elected leaders who put the people first. It is critical we all come together to be those elected leaders. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation and send a clear message that we care about the taxpayer dollars we use every day. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
