Subject: Exempting Injured and Decorated Veterans from Vehicle Registration Fees

Following their service, veterans return home impacted by their experiences and face financial hurdles as they begin the transition to civilian life. These newfound obstacles place added pressure on those individuals who have already given so much for their fellow citizens. Oftentimes, veterans must relocate, find new homes, apply for jobs, and register their vehicles.

While state law currently provides some veterans with a discounted rate for vehicle registration by only charging a processing fee, we owe it to these brave heroes to ensure that our injured and decorated veterans be fully excused from paying vehicle registration fees. That is why I will be introducing legislation which totally waives these fees for any person who has been injured or captured while serving their country, or who has received the Congressional Medal of Honor or the Purple Heart.

Many of us have known friends, family, and neighbors who served their country dutifully. This exemption would not only help these individuals directly, but also their communities and loved ones by easing the challenges veterans face when returning from active duty.

As proud supporters of our armed forces, I hope that you will join me in this effort to help ease a financial burden on injured and decorated veterans in our state. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
