MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 15, 2021 03:39 PM
From: Representative Joe Kerwin and Rep. Thomas L. Mehaffie, III
To: All House members
Subject: Non-Original Equipment Manufacturer Vehicle Doors

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation making driving vehicles with non-original equipment manufacturer (OEM), doors on Commonwealth roadways legal.
Currently, Pennsylvania is the only state where it is illegal to drive a vehicle (unless off-roading) without the doors that the vehicle came equipped with originally. However, many vehicles such as Jeeps are designed with easily removable doors and customization options. Popular options such as tube doors, half doors, and net doors allow for an open-air driving experience while also providing safety to the driver and passengers.

Under this legislation, in order to drive with non-OEM doors upon a roadway, the vehicle must have two properly functioning side mirrors, as well as requiring all occupants of the vehicle to wear a safety seat belt while the vehicle is operating.
Please join us in supporting this legislation.
