House of Representatives
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 14, 2021 03:48 PM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Charter School Conflicts of Interest

In the near future I will be introducing legislation which would prohibit members of the General Assembly from owning, or serving on the board of directors, of any charter school or cyber charter school in Pennsylvania.

Every year, the House and Senate must negotiate and vote on bills pertaining to the operations and funding of charter schools, and as a result, I believe owning or serving on the board of a charter school is a serious conflict of interest for members.  Conflicts of interest erode the public trust in its elected representatives, and I believe they must be avoided whenever possible.

We must hold ourselves to a higher standard of impartiality and accountability. Please join me in sponsoring this common-sense piece of government transparency legislation.

Introduced as HB1707
