Subject: | Municipal Tri-Axle Gross Weight Limit |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will allow municipal-owned three axle vehicles to exceed the 58,400-pound maximum gross weight limit (provided that the weight is not more than the vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating or 80,000lbs, whichever is less). Several municipalities in my district recently purchased tri-axle trucks from a Federal Army Surplus. Since these vehicles are military grade, they weigh significantly more than a civilian vehicle, and therefore cannot haul or carry nearly as much as their capacity under the state’s current vehicle weight laws. My legislation would therefore allow the safe use of these vehicles under civilian conditions, and would prevent the unnecessary, albeit unintentional punishment of municipalities who may be able to save their taxpayers money by acquiring military surplus vehicles. Please join me in supporting this important legislation. |
