MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 6, 2021 11:48 AM
From: Representative Kurt A. Masser
To: All House members
Subject: Radar Use by Local Police (former HB 1275)

I will soon re-introduce legislation proposing to authorize the use of radar as a speed timing device by full-time municipal police officers who are members of a full-service municipal or regional police department and who have successfully completed a training course approved by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission.

Upon conviction of a speeding violation, 50 percent of the fine shall be payable to the municipality in which the offense occurred, with $1 payable to the Municipal Law Enforcement Accreditation Fund. This fund, established under this legislation, will be a non-lapsing restricted receipt account within the State Treasury and will fund the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s administration of the Municipal Law Enforcement Accreditation grant program.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB1212
