MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 16, 2021 10:28 AM
From: Representative Rich Irvin
To: All House members
Subject: Use of Drug Forfeiture Dollars for School Safety/Security

In the near future I will be introducing legislation to encourage the use of drug forfeiture dollars for school safety and security measures. This legislation was previously introduced by Leader Benninghoff as HB 428 of the 2019/2020 Legislative Session.

District Attorneys' offices across Pennsylvania are collectively in possession of millions of drug forfeiture dollars. Those dollars are a non-tax resource that are to be utilized to combat crime.

I believe our local communities should be encouraged to dedicate part of these resources to school safety and security. While we can all agree this proposal alone is not the only solution, I believe it can be a helpful asset in a larger, more comprehensive effort to better use government resources to ensure the safety of our children and the security of our schools.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB1190
