Subject: Non-Compete Provisions in Broadcast Contracts

In the near future I would like to introduce legislation that would prohibit the non-compete provision in broadcast contracts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Personal Service Contracts (PSCs) in the broadcasting industry can often include language that limits and sometimes even prohibits Radio and Television employees from switching jobs at the conclusion of their contracts.  Non-compete clauses are usually applied to address internal confidential information.  These clauses often force an employee of the area of non-compete geographic limitation.  The PA Freedom to Compete Bill would make the non-compete clauses unenforceable in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

It is important to acknowledge that employers and employees would still honor their personal contracts, however at the end of the said contract, the employee has the liberty to renegotiate a new contract or move to a new employment opportunity elsewhere without the restrictions of the non-compete.

Please join me as a co-sponsor for this important legislative initiative.
