MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 25, 2021 03:08 PM
From: Representative Doyle Heffley
To: All House members
Subject: Justin's Law

Families and loved ones of those struggling with addiction are often faced with hurdles as they try to help their loved ones recover. Unbeknownst to them, their loved one had left or gotten evicted from their recovery house because of relapse and had been out of recovery for weeks or months. No one told them that potentially life saving information. Justin’s Law would require these houses to contact the listed emergency contact of the recoverer should they leave under eviction/against medical advice. For many, this could be what makes the difference between life and death – Family and loved ones having the knowledge that this person has stepped out of recovery.
