Subject: Protecting Mental Health Patients from Abuse

Mental health patients of any age deserve the right to be free from neglect, abuse, and exploitation, especially when they are in treatment.

Studies show that the COVID-19 pandemic is adversely impacting Pennsylvanian's mental health. Now more than ever, it is important to prioritize and encourage mental health treatment. Unfortunately, many people are hesitant to enter mental health treatment. It is my hope that we will encourage more Pennsylvanians to seek mental health treatment by explicitly stating in state law that mental health patients have the right to be free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

This issue was brought to my attention by a patient who is a victim of abuse. Please stand with patients and victims of abuse by supporting this legislation.

Introduced as HB841
