Subject: | Civic Education Awareness Month – October 2021 |
Democracy works best when citizens participate and trust that their voices are heard. Our democracy also works best with a knowledgeable citizenry. Yet, adults and students alike continue to struggle with basic civic knowledge. We must always encourage our residents to be educated and to participate in the “last great experiment” that is our American republic. For this reason, I plan to introduce a concurrent resolution designating October 2021 as “Civic Education Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Civic education increases voter turnout, lowers school dropout rates, and encourages residents of all ages to take an active role in our democracy. As elected officials, we have a responsibility to support greater civic education and to ensure every eligible voter participates in the election process. Please join me in co-sponsoring this concurrent resolution and send a clear message to all Pennsylvanians that civic education is invaluable in our great state. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
