MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 17, 2021 10:23 AM
From: Representative Mike Armanini
To: All House members
Subject: COVID-19 Fire and EMS Grant Funding for 2021

Soon, I intend to introduce legislation that will provide additional and much needed financial assistance to our fire and EMS services to aid in both their response and protection against COVID-19 and financial struggles suffered due to the pandemic.

There can be no doubt, our local first responders and front-line workers responding in the streets, homes and businesses across the Commonwealth provide vital and sometimes dangerous services to our local communities. To support our first responders, our local communities turn out for fundraisers hosted by these organizations which in turn, are used to fund the continuance of life saving operations.

As you know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on gatherings and many other factors, these fundraisers were not occurring or very limited, which has resulted in economic hardships continuing for our emergency services.

To support our first responder community and address their ongoing financial struggles, my legislation will utilize all available federal funding afforded the states for this very purpose.

It is imperative that we take a proactive approach in preparing for and setting forth the ability for Pennsylvania to provide any available assistance to maintain a viable emergency services response capability, because a virus does not stop fires, accidents, and emergency medical needs; it still does not stop the cost of readiness.

I respectfully ask for your consideration to join me as a co-sponsor of this essential legislation.

Introduced as HB1613
