MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 29, 2021 04:25 PM
From: Representative Amen Brown
To: All House members
Subject: Delaying PUC Public Hearings on Utility Rate Increases During COVID-19

We need to stand with ratepayers and ensure that they are not subject to rate increases while a declared disaster emergency is proceeding. During these difficult times, we need to make sure we aren't forcing people into housing insecurity because of rate increases that can occur when we have recovered from the pandemic.

As a way to help Pennsylvania families, my legislation would postpone all Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) public hearings involving utility rate increase cases until after the COVID-19 Disaster Emergency has been lifted. The PUC would still be able to hold public hearings pertaining to other issues.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation and help lessen the already growing financial burden on Pennsylvania families and provide them some security when they open their utility bills.

Introduced as HB1067
