MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 25, 2021 12:02 PM
From: Representative Robert Freeman
To: All House members
Subject: Campaign Finance Reports for State House and Senate Candidates

In the near future, I will introduce legislation that amends the Election Code to require State House and Senate candidates, in addition to filing campaign expense reports on the second Friday before the election, to also file expense reports on or before the sixth Tuesday prior to the election.

Currently, State House and Senate candidates are only required to file expense reports on the second Friday before the election and candidates for State-wide office are required to file by the sixth Tuesday prior to the election as well as the second Friday before the election.

By requiring this additional deadline for State House and Senate candidates, my legislation provides earlier disclosure and greater transparency regarding contributions made to candidates for the General Assembly.  The additional deadline will also decrease the amount of time and effort involved in filing the second Friday report, as the time span and information would be subsequently reduced as a result of the additional report covering part of the time period currently covered by the second Friday report.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
