House of Representatives
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 19, 2021 02:40 PM
From: Representative Thomas L. Mehaffie, III
To: All House members
Subject: Emergency COVID-19 ACT (Prior HB2777)

In the near future, Representative Pat Harkins and I will be re-introducing former HB2777, Emergency COVID-19 Act.

We will soon be entering the second year COVID-19 pandemic that has taken the lives of thousands of Pennsylvanians. As the case counts continue to surge, we need to find ways to protect residents from this deadly virus while also making sure that Pennsylvania stays open for business.

Unfortunately, many of the essential workers and caregivers who have been on the frontlines of this pandemic continue to be left out of federal legislation to offer paid public health emergency leave. These brave Pennsylvanians in healthcare and service sector jobs, continue to risk their lives every day to keep Pennsylvanian running and to save the lives of our patients and our elderly. We owe it to them to make sure they are protected along with their families when they get sick.

This legislation will fill the gaps left by previous federal legislation, ensuring that essential workers can stay at home when they or their family is presumed positive with COVID-19 and that they have a job to return to when they recover.

I respectfully ask for your consideration to join me as a co-sponsor of this legislation.
