MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 23, 2020 03:01 PM

To: All House members
Subject: Pre-employment Drug Screening For Public and Private School Employees

It is puzzling how Pennsylvania has strict drug screening requirements for the hiring of state employees in many jobs, including turnpike workers and other public personnel, yet we exempt those whom we entrust our children to- public and private school employees.

To remedy this, we need a law requiring pre-employment drug screening for all prospective employees of public and private schools, intermediate units and area vo-tech schools, including independent contractors and their employees.

This is a commonsense move. Our children are our most valuable assets and they rely on us for protection. It is unsafe to have impaired personnel amongst them, and we can work to prevent that up front by requiring drug testing.

Last session this was HB 636.

Please join me in this important legislation. Thank you.

Introduced as HB311
