Subject: Honoring a Baseball Icon
 
Richard (Dick) Anthony Allen was the first African American superstar for the Philadelphia Phillies. He endured harsh realities throughout his career simply because of his race. The fans booed him at games, made racial jeers, left threatening notes on his vehicle, and threw objects onto the field – forcing him to wear a batting helmet. Despite this, Allen never gave up. He worked to become a baseball legend, often becoming the most talented player on his team.

Sadly, Dick Allen passed away on December 7, 2020. I plan to introduce a resolution honoring this phenomenal athlete and embodiment of perseverance. Please join me in supporting this resolution to send a message of condolences for this baseball icon. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
