MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 8, 2020 03:55 PM
From: Representative Benjamin V. Sanchez
To: All House members
Subject: CPL Vincent J. Wargo, Jr., U.S.M.C. Memorial Highway

CPL Vincent J. Wargo, Jr., U.S.M.C., was born in Philadelphia on April 19, 1949 to Helen T. Coogan Wargo and Vincent Joseph Wargo. CPL Wargo graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
On Sept. 15, 1968, while in combat and under enemy fire, he was shot while trying to save some of his brother Marines. He did not succumb to his wounds until his fellow Marines were pulled to safety. He was 19 years of age when he died in combat.
CPL Wargo was awarded the Silver Star for his merits and his Bishop McDevitt High School classmates had a plaque made in his honor, which is still proudly hanging in the main entrance of the school. He was the first graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School to have a scholarship award named for him.
In recognition of his service and sacrifice,
I will be introducing legislation to designate a portion of Fitzwatertown Road, between Jenkintown Road and North Hills Avenue, in Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, as the CPL Vincent J. Wargo, Jr., U.S.M.C. Memorial Highway.
Please join me in this effort to honor a local hero who gave his life in service to our nation during the Vietnam War.

Introduced as HB151
