Subject: | Preventing Harassment of Homeowners from Real Estate Developers |
Every day certain real estate developers use predatory tactics to harass homeowners, often senior citizens, into selling their homes in the name of progress. The homeowner may receive several calls per day seeking to purchase their home. This practice is amplified in areas that are experiencing gentrification. We must provide protection for these homeowners. Based on a Chicago ordinance, my legislation will ascribe a $2,000 to $10,000 fine to real estate developers who contact a homeowner unsolicited more than once per year. Such practices not only heap undue stress on older Pennsylvanians, but further serve to destroy established residential neighborhoods through increased commercialization. They must be curtailed. Protecting homeowners and senior citizens is paramount. No one should be consistently cajoled into selling their home so others may profit. I ask you to join me in preventing this practice and in standing up for the homeowners of this Commonwealth. |
