MEMORANDUM

Subject: Audit of COVID-19 Data in the Commonwealth

In the near future, I plan on introducing a resolution that requires the Legislative Budget and Finance Commission to review data collected by the Department of Health.  Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the collection of data and information has been vital in crafting our response and mitigation efforts.

Unfortunately, also throughout the pandemic, there have been numerous occasions where the information that has been published by the Department of Health has turned out to be inaccurate or incomplete. This includes thousands of COVID-19 positive cases being removed from the daily totals, days where there were significant statistical anomalies in the data and finally the comingling of data according to the CDC.

It is our hope that a comprehensive audit of the data, as seen in other states, will help us draw a clearer picture of what has occurred already and what we need to do to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the future.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation so we can address these issues with the requite facts and data that we can all rely on as accurate.
