| One of the many ways in which we can slow the transmission of COVID-19 is through contactless payment, like credit and debit cards. However, businesses are including hidden surcharges on these credit and debit purchases that are not made clear to the consumer at the time of purchase. The legislative remedy I am proposing to fix this issue is simple. I will be introducing a bill that will require businesses to clearly post any surcharges or fees on credit and debit transactions in a place that is easily visible to the consumer. People deserve fairness when buying goods and services. If a store is applying an additional fee because the person is using a debit or credit card, the consumer needs to know this prior to the purchase. We need these protections so seniors and our family members can make an informed decision and a fair purchase.
