Subject: COVID-19: Hazard Pay Grants for Nonprofit Workers

As we socially distance, our families, friends, co-workers, and neighbors sometimes seem far away.  However, this isn’t a luxury for everyone in the Commonwealth.  There are certain groups that stepped up and provided vital services to our families and neighbors across the Commonwealth.  I am referring to the nonprofits that have provided food from food banks, a warm bed in homeless shelters, services for people with disabilities, and other valuable missions from hundreds of other nonprofits.

Since these workers have placed themselves in harm’s way, we need to stand with them and provide a hazard pay grant program that will help these selfless workers.  I will be introducing a bill that would use CARES Act funding to create a program that would pay hazard pay to workers for a nonprofit that is providing a vital charitable purpose during the pandemic.  Similar to the current hazard pay grant program, once their employers are approved, these workers would be eligible for $3 per hour extra for a 10-week period.

Thank you for co-sponsoring this bill and for standing with the hardworking and tireless nonprofit workers in Pennsylvania.
