Subject: | Hunger Action Month |
Many people face the difficult choice of paying a bill or feeding themselves and their families. In Pennsylvania alone, about 1.6 million people do not know where their next meal is coming from. Out of that number almost 400,000 are children. I plan on introducing a non-controversial resolution recognizing September 2020 as “Hunger Action Month” to focus the attention on the persistent problem of domestic hunger in the United States and Pennsylvania. According to a 2018 overall county food insecurity report from Feeding America, over 10% of Pennsylvanian preschool and school-age children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety, depression and behavioral problems than children receiving a well-balanced diet. Additionally, food insecure senior citizens have lower nutrient intakes which places one at risk of disability. I believe every citizen, business and government entity have a role to play in getting food to those in need. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
