MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 19, 2020 09:49 AM
From: Representative Mary Jo Daley
To: All House members
Subject: Land Conveyance - Highlands & Garden

For years, Pennsylvania, through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), has owned the Highlands, a historical estate situated on a large piece of land in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County. The property has been painstakingly cared for by the Highlands Historical Society for a number of years and, as PHMC is looking to transfer ownership of the property to another entity, the Highlands Historical Society is the most natural choice.

In an effort to maintain the historical integrity of the property, I am introducing legislation that would transfer the Highlands and surrounding land from the PHMC to the Highlands Historical Society and create a conservation easement to prevent development on the surrounding land.

I ask that you please co-sponsor this legislation in an effort to preserve some of Pennsylvania’s land and history.
