Subject: Residential Restrictions for Sex Offenders

I was recently contacted by a constituent concerned about the safety and wellbeing of children and students in our community. In an effort to address the situation, I intend to introduce legislation that would prohibit sex offenders from residing 5,000 feet from any public school, private school, parochial school, pre-school, or playground.

At this point in time, the only restrictions on where these designated offenders can live is from court orders. There are no current laws in place to prevent sex offenders from residing near schools and areas where children visit.  It is our duty to be more proactive and help protect our youth from these dangerous offenders.

Please join me in support of this legislation.

Introduced as HB2700
