Subject: | Resolution Recognizing August 19, 2020, as “Aviation Day” in Pennsylvania |
Aviation is an integral part of the economic fabric of Pennsylvania. With more than 100 years of aviation, the state ranks 13th in the nation in the number of public-use aviation facilities, with 125 airports, heliports and seaplane bases within its borders. These vital enterprises contribute more than $23 billion to our economy and support more than 300,000 jobs, making it one of the state’s largest employment sectors. President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the first National Aviation Day in 1939. Each year, National Aviation Day is recognized on August 19, the anniversary of the birth of Orville Wright on August 19, 1871. This national event, which celebrates the history and development of aviation, provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the pioneering individuals who have contributed so much to this industry. It is my hope that this resolution will inspire all of us to recognize these individuals and the importance of aviation in our lives. Please join me in celebrating “Aviation Day” in Pennsylvania. |
