MEMORANDUM

Subject: Allowing Pennsylvania's Residential Cleaning Services to Re-open

The COVID-19 virus crisis has caused many of our businesses to shut down per the directive of Governor Wolf’s 20200319 TWW COVID-19 Business Closure Order. One of those business sectors is residential cleaning services. I am planning to introduce legislation that would allow Pennsylvania’s residential cleaning services to re-open immediately.

Many households are experiencing overwhelming schedules. Their homes have become offices and classrooms, in addition to their places to live, eat, sleep, rest and relax. The additional time spent in our homes, along with the responsibilities put upon our residents to work and be caregivers 24 hours a day, seven days a week during this pandemic, takes away the time and energy they would normally devote to keeping their homes clean and safe. Any cleaning they can do may not be done effectively and could potentially lead to additional sicknesses. Re-opening these businesses allows for proper cleaning and maintaining of our private dwellings which contributes to a healthier environment to live in, as well as allows additional Pennsylvania residents to remain employed while maintaining safe distancing practices and other mitigation measures defined by the CDC to protect workers and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
