MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 28, 2020 08:46 PM
From: Representative Martina A. White
To: All House members
Subject: Term Limits for District Attorneys

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that will place limits on the period of time a district attorney can serve in office.  If the position of district attorney is open, the district attorney can serve no more than two terms (eight years).

In sixteen states the Office of Attorney General already includes term limits, including Pennsylvania. Term limits help implement fresh ideas and provide for more competitive elections.

Furthermore, term limits help reinforce the idea of a district attorney as a public service rather than career choice. District attorneys, as prosecutors, should be treated the same as the Attorney General with respect to term limits.

Please join me in co-sponsoring in this legislation.

Introduced as HB2663
