Subject: | Resolution Marking the 75th Anniversary of V-J Day |
I will be introducing a house resolution that will designate September 2, 2020 as V-J Day. This date marks the 75th Anniversary of the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, ending the Second World War. The formal surrender of Japan came on September 2, 1945, when Japanese foreign minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and General Yoshijiro Umenzu, the Chief of the Army General Staff, signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. There to accept was General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers. Representatives from the United States, China, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, were also present. Please join me in honoring those who were a part of this momentous day. |
