MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 16, 2020 10:27 AM
From: Representative Malcolm Kenyatta and Rep. Danilo Burgos, Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler
To: All House members
Subject: Undocumented Residents COVID-19

In order to counter the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed the most financially extensive assistance plan in American history – the CARES Act.  Meant to provide financial assistance to individuals and businesses, and address a number of other important concerns, this unprecedented piece of legislation has left out a number of individuals that have proven time and time again that they are a huge part of the backbone of this country – undocumented residents.

My resolution would urge Congress to recognize that protections and assistance for undocumented residents need to be put into future COVID-19 legislation.  If we are to recover as a country, we need to recognize that our undocumented residents need and deserve the same respect and assistance as our documented residents.

Every worker deserves a fair deal – their contributions are important and should be honored and protected.  We as Pennsylvanians, as Americans, need to stand up and support the undocumented individuals who have for so long supported us as a state and a nation.  Please join me in supporting this legislation.
