Subject: Extending Budget Deadlines for School Districts due to COVID-19

Under normal circumstances, school districts right now would be in the middle of their budget processes in order to meet the state-mandated July 1 deadline. However, due to the circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, school districts are not in the position where they can hold their regular public meetings to discuss their budgets and receive public input. This jeopardizes the ability of school districts to properly pass budgets for the purpose of benefiting their students, employees, and community.

In the midst of this public health emergency, it is our duty as legislators to provide any form of relief that we can. This is why I will be introducing legislation to extend the budget deadline for school districts due to COVID-19. By offering an extension to this deadline, we can give school boards the ability to have a budget adoption process that allows for public participation and is inclusive of taxpayer and community input.

Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation to provide for our school districts during this difficult time.

Introduced as HB2482
