MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 20, 2020 04:30 PM
From: Representative Stephen Kinsey and Rep. Carol Hill-Evans
To: All House members
Subject: Extending Vehicle Registrations for COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions to travel, employment, business, and government services across the Commonwealth. As many Pennsylvanians deal with the pandemic’s impact, the requirement to keep and maintain vehicle registrations will create an undue burden on our residents and business owners during this difficult time.

To fix this problem, we will be introducing legislation which extends the expiration date of all vehicle registrations statewide to 60 days after the conclusion of the Governor’s Declaration of Disaster Emergency issued on March 6, 2020.

My proposal will provide some relief to residents and business owners who are unable to earn a living as a result of the pandemic by guaranteeing that their vehicle registrations will not expire and delaying the payment of registration fees until our health and economic situation improves. It will also help to prevent any interruption to the operation of commercial vehicles which continue to deliver necessary food and medical supplies for the Commonwealth.

Please join us in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to help our residents and business owners during this difficult time.

Introduced as HB2379
