Subject: | May 2020 as “Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Awareness Month” |
Nearly two million Americans struggle daily with the burdens of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. The pain caused by these diseases is often times debilitating and can make day-to-day life a struggle for those who are affected. Currently, there is no cure, with medication and surgical intervention proven to be the only two options available to achieve remission and improve overall quality of life. Organizations such as the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation sponsor cutting-edge research to find a cure and offer a wide range of educational programs and support services to improve the lives of children and adults affected by these diseases. I am introducing this resolution with the hope that it continues to raise public awareness around these efforts by designating May 2020 as “Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. As stewards of public health, please consider joining me in promoting awareness of these diseases and recognizing organizations who are leading the way in finding a cure. |
