Subject: | Designating March 2020 as “National Nutrition Month” |
Research indicates that the typical American diet exceeds the recommended intake levels for calories from fats, added sugars, refined grains, and sodium. Further, at least three-fourths of the population has an eating pattern that is too low in vegetables, fruits, dairy, and healthy oils. Poor nutritional habits such as these can have serious impacts on a person’s health and put them at risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity and some forms of cancer. In an effort to address this, I am introducing a resolution recognizing the month of March 2020 as “National Nutrition Month” in Pennsylvania. This month presents an opportunity to focus on the importance of making informed food and nutrition choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Through increasing public awareness of the importance of good nutrition, it is my hope that all Pennsylvanians learn of the transformative power of food. Please join me in supporting this important resolution. |
