Subject: | Designating March 2020 as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month |
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, with over 50,000 Americans dying every year. Routine screening for adults of appropriate age could prevent up to 60% of colorectal cancer deaths but sadly, many Americans are unaware of the steps they can take to lower their risk of colorectal cancer and do not undergo the simple test every year. As such, I am introducing a resolution to recognize the month of March 2020 as “National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Since 2000, March has been celebrated as “National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month” by advocacy groups, public health officials, health care providers and patients alike, to help spread awareness of the condition and the importance of regular screening. It is my hope that, as stewards of public health, we assist in this effort and bring attention to colorectal cancer and to educate everyone on simple, preventive strategies. Please join me in supporting this resolution and working towards a healthier Pennsylvania for all. Thank you for your consideration. |
