MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 15, 2020 01:08 PM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Youth Art Month

Access to arts education can lead to better academic and social outcomes for students, including lower disciplinary rates and higher test score achievement. Unfortunately, funding for art programs is usually among the first line-items school districts cut when faced with budgetary challenges.

To uphold the national effort in acknowledging the importance of art education in our schools, my resolution will recognize the month of May 2020 as “Youth Art Month” in Pennsylvania. Organized by the Council for Art Education, “Youth Art Month” seeks to raise awareness around the importance of the arts in developing successful and well-rounded students. Seeking to emphasize the value of the visual arts in the lives of young people, this annual event is celebrated with public art displays in schools, libraries, art centers and museums across the nation.

Drawing attention to the importance of arts education to the development of successful students is a significant first step in ensuring our young people continue to have access to these vital programs.

Please join me in sponsoring this resolution to highlight the important role the visual arts have in improving the lives of our youth.
