Subject: | National School Breakfast Week |
Research has shown that something as simple as eating school breakfast can help children maintain a healthy weight, be more alert, better concentrate, have better memory, and reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math, as well as score higher on standardized tests. Additionally, providing breakfast for children at school is associated with lower rates of absenteeism, fewer behavioral problems, a reduced number of nurse’s office visits, and a more positive learning environment. To further advocate for the success of our children, my resolution will recognize the week of March 2 through 6, 2020, as “National School Breakfast Week” in Pennsylvania. This week is observed annually to highlight the many benefits children can receive just by having a healthy school breakfast. National School Breakfast Week also helps increase participation in the school breakfast program. The School Breakfast program provides healthy breakfast options in age-appropriate serving sizes to 14.7 million children each school day across America. Please join me in celebrating this special week as we recognize and support the importance of childhood nutrition and the correlation between existing school breakfast plans and children’s focus on learning. |
