Subject: | United States Army Sergeant Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr. and United States Marine Corps. Sergeant Hamilton T. Woodruff Memorial Interchange |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would name the Faxon Interchange of Interstate 180 at Northway Road in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, as the United States Army Sergeant Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr. and United States Marine Corps. Sergeant Hamilton T. Woodruff Memorial Interchange. Both grandfather and grandson enlisted and served in the United States military. After the Korean War, United States Army Sergeant Thomas Woodruff joined the Loyalsock Township Volunteer Fire Company. He was later appointed as a Justice of the Peace and served as a member of the Loyalsock Township school board. He also started the first centralized emergency dispatch system in Lycoming County. After battling a brain tumor and various forms of cancer, he passed away in 2000. His grandson, Sergeant Hamilton Woodruff, served as class president while attending Mansfield Area High School. Between his junior and senior year, he was offered the chance to enlist early with the United States Marine Corps. While on deployment, he was a member of a special recon group where he was responsible for intercepting and interpreting communications targeting his fellow troops. For his life saving work, he was posthumously awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Award. He tragically passed away in a car accident near Altoona while returning to Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, in 2009. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
